Dr Douglas has worked in general practice for 24 years, with a special interest in women’s health. She is deeply committed to supporting the well-being of new babies and their families. Her crying baby research has been supported by an RACGP Foundation Scholarship, two Primary Health Care Education and Research Development Fellowships, a school-based scholarship through the Children’s Nutrition Research Centre at The University of Queensland, and the Discipline of General Practice at The University of Queensland, where she holds an adjunct appointment as Senior Lecturer. She has participated in the 11th International Infant Cry Research Workshop in Zeist, The Netherlands, in June 2011, and has published in the international literature concerning unsettled infant behaviour. Dr Douglas has developed the innovative Possums program, an integrated, multi-disciplinary, primary care approach to unsettled babies and their families, in order to help address the gaps in post-birth care identified in the Australian Government’s 2009 Report of the Maternity Services Review.
