MHPN launched the ‘MHPN Presents’ podcast nearly three months ago; and we’ve been humbled by the response to our first two series: Ageing Well and Trauma and Resilience.
MHPN Presents joins our suite of free-to-access online offerings, which includes our extensive webinar library and our gradual introduction of online-only networks. The podcast was developed as part of MHPN’s wider effort to provide engaging professional development activities across different platforms for mental health practitioners around Australia.
Our Senior Project Officer, Ms Nicky Bisogni, says MHPN’s key stakeholder relationships -and the success of a podcast pilot at the 2019 online conference - meant we were ready to launch our own podcast.
‘As a project which values networking, over the ten-plus years that MHPN has been operational, we’ve been fortunate to make some really strategic and mutually beneficial connections with skilled practitioners and key organisations. These connections along with the consistently positive feedback from our webinar audiences and the resounding success of our inaugural 2019 conference, gave us confidence that we were well positioned to grow our suite of online professional development activities’.
A key part of MHPN’s aim to strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration involves listening to and working with the needs of mental health practitioners nationwide. The increasing move towards online methods of learning, sharing, and practicing, combined with MHPN’s efforts to support ongoing conversations between expert guests, led to the development of MHPN Presents.
In reflecting on our most recent episode of Ageing Well, released on 18 November, Nicky notes the collaborative process underpinning the series.
‘Producing [a series with co-hosts] has meant getting to know each other through the podcast medium. It means nurturing the growth of Julianne and Monica’s relationship, watching them [as practitioners] explore new ways of sharing knowledge. It means learning with them across each episode’.
Looking ahead, Nicky acknowledges the unique challenges involved in producing content for a new medium.
‘The next challenge we face is how we can have a conversation with our listeners. Knowing we are pitching our podcast appropriately is crucial to their success. Feedback is important’.
